The Wedding photographer

Wedding Photography is an art in itself. Great pressure is on the photographer. We can't miss the moment. Every second is crucial. The photographer is the closest person to the couple, he's on their side all day long. There's no room for error and everything must be perfect. Here are some tips for capturing this unique day.

Two cameras

Your device is not immune to failure or malfunction. A second camera equal piece of mind. If a problem occurs, you have a plan b. This second camera also allows you to change focal quickly. As the lens is already installed on the camera, this option is much faster than removing and putting another lens on a single camera. Choose two cameras of the same format (full frame sensor or APS-C) for continuity in your workflow. Full frame gives you more details and APS-C are usually faster.

Suggestion: Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Nikon D850,Sony A7R III

Varied focal length for all situations

The goal here is to cover the largest focal distance with only two lenses. The 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8, all brands combined, are classics. These bright lenses allow you to pass from portrait to group photo in a moment. A lens with great aperture is essential. A low field depth allows you to highlight your subject in an environment that you cannot control.

Suggestion: Objectif 24-70mm f/2.8 Canon, Nikon, Sony. Objectif 70-200 f/2.8 Canon, Nikon, Sony

Portable Flash

The variety of places to photograph during a wedding is great. The Internal / external transition is constant. You must constantly adapt yourself to dim ligthed room to blinding sunlight. The Portable flash allows you to handle these difficult situations. Each brand has their respective portable flashes. The Profoto A1 is a hybrid between studio flash and portable flash. More powerful and with superior light quality, it allows you to have an extra light inside and outside. The direct Light of this flash gives a very harsh result on the skin. It is suggested to point the light toward a wall or the ceiling to bounce it creating a softer light. You may also use light shapers such as small soft boxes or other accessories to diffuse the light.

Suggestion: Profoto A1, Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT, Nikon SB-5000 AF, Diffuseur Gary Fong

Comfortable belt

Carrying two cameras all day can reduce your efficiency if your camera straps destroy your shoulders and back. There is a wide selection of belts, simple or double, with extra padding for optimal comfort. One of the most important part of your equipment.

Suggestion: Courroies Blackrapid, Courroies Peak Design

Lots of batteries, lots of memory cards and a lots anything you might loose or break

When You Photograph a marriage, you must have a plan b, c and d. Seeing in the middle of the ceremony that you no longer have any space on your card is not a situation you want to be. Same thing for batteries. Be prepared. Any essential Accessory can be lost or damaged in the frenzy of the day. A second tripod plate, a reflector to give a shine in the eyes, a cleaning kit for your lenses. Be prepared.

Suggestion: Hoodman memory card, Westcott Illuminator 6 in 1 Reflector kit

For an old school flair, you might want to take a few shots with an instant camera – even better, consider using a 35mm or medium format film
